In Case You Missed It: Church Council Meeting (with link to full minutes)

It was a great problem to have. We ran out of seats. We set up an additional table. We ran out of seats a second time, so we added one more 8-top; what was this well-attended event, you ask? It was our first Church Council meeting of the 2024 calendar year, held on Sunday, February 4.

After filling our bellies with potluck delectables (Thank you, Sue and Mike Sames, for your great hospitality.), we heard succinct updates from the “Big 3”- Staff Parish Relations (John Thomson), Trustees (John O’Neal for Gene Esch) and Finance (Jen Acheson). Then, Peter Gailey provided a comprehensive update on the accessibility project. He communicated the vision, need, and next steps in the process. To round out an incredible morning, Elizabeth Webber offered a look into SUM’s growing mission of supporting our youth in their Christian development. From Sunday School to Youth Group to plans for this summer’s full-day Vacation Bible School (VBS), one thing is for certain: God is blessing our community in incredible ways. Where other church communities are shrinking, SUM continues its planting and support of opportunities for our youngest members.

No worries if you missed it. Church Council Secretary Leslie Lahue captured it all in the meeting minutes included here

Questions?  Feel free to reach out to Pastor Gene, Deacon Deb, or me (council@sumct.org).

Our next meeting will be in May. Be on the lookout for announcements with the date! And remember, there’s always room at the table. If not, we will just set up another!

Sue Homrok-Lemke
Chair, SUM Church Council
