Youth Confirmation Update

Every other year, SUM offers a confirmation experience to our Youth. In September, a group of 6 participants, three mentors, Pastor Gene, and Deacon Deb, started their confirmation journey. This program unfolds in the same manner as our 2020-2021 Youth Confirmation, with the youth committing to five Sundays of in-person learning with the group, their mentors, and clergy. The in-person learning is preceded by independent learning on various topics: the Bible, World Religion, Methodism, worship, and more. The youth engage with videos to learn and then schedule time with their mentor to discuss what they have learned before we gather in person.

Each time we are together, we spend time building relationships, eating lunch, and having fellowship. The participants then have an opportunity to put their independent learning to the test – literally. We have quiz game-type activities to review the learning in each session. After the review, Pastor Gene and Deacon Deb spend time discussing the topic. Then we make the assignment for the next topic and close with prayer before sending them off again.

Please take time to say “Hi!” to the confirmation candidates and their mentors when you get a chance. Wish them well. Offer them your support through friendship, prayers, and a smile.

Confirmation candidates: Colin Cunningham, Jacob Keleher, Maleita Lemke, Nolan Mueller, Asher Scarlato, and Dominic Vega.

Mentors: Tim Boswell, Leslie Lahue, and Sue Lemke
